Veterans Day 2024: A Celebration in Routt county for Veterans and Across the State of Colorado

Events this for Veterans Day start early with school visits at 8:45 a.m. at Strawberry Park Elementary and 1 p.m. at Soda Creek Elementary. The recognition doesn't stop there though, as Sleeping Giant has an exceptional assembly planned - at 9:15- as a tribute to the Veterans of Steamboat and Routt County also, complete with a breakfast for the veterans, on the morning of Tuesday 12 November, starting at 8:30. From Steamboat Springs Post 44 - adjunct Jim Stanko - recommends showing up a few minutes early to the programs in order to get a good seat. Stanko said all the school programs are always excellent and are at the core what Veterans Day means to so many that have served. The 5th grade students of Strawberry Park elementary music program director Corrine Sommerfeild have been working extremely hard for over a month, practicing all the service songs for each individual branch of the military. It is one of several grand celebrations hosted by the local schools and is matched in enthusiasm by both the students and the veterans alike.

It is a true honor and pride of all the Steamboat schools each year to plan, practice, and perform for the veterans, and as Jim Stanko alluded to, most programs demand standing room only by the time they begin.

For all the Marines in Routt County, Hoorah! and Happy 249th birthday! You are not forgotten! VFW Vice Commander & Warhorse Ranch proprietor, Mike Lozano, is hosting a Marine Corps birthday party in the evening of November 11th. The party will include a Marine Corps cake (complete with cake cutting with a Marine Corps sword), first free round of drinks for veterans, a presentation featuring a slide show on the branches of military for veterans and their spouses, and will benefit the VFW in its fundraising efforts. Don't miss this event to wrap up the day, held at Veteran-owned West End Grill in Steamboat Springs starting at 6pm. Other businesses in Steamboat are also celebrating veterans as well. F.M. Light is honoring Veterans all day long by extending a 20% in store shopping, and Veteran owned business Roots and Roost, has partnered with the The Veterans Center of Northwest Colorado to donate 20% of all sales toward the center and its ongoing renovations. Other Veteran businesses of note worth checking out are Pine Grove Dental - who graciously is extending a free day of dentistry to signed-up Routt County Veterans, Yampa Valley Medical Associates, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Steamboat Veterinary Hospital, Westside Auto, and Central Park Management. Routt county veterans make up an extensive and well-respected percentage of the Steamboat Springs and Routt county community demographic as a whole. It is wonderful to see our nation's heroes who have all sacrificed so much, celebrated in a such a noble way.
